Residential fire leads to fatality

Pittsburg emergency personnel, including Camp County EMS and Camp County Sheriff ’s department, responded to a residential fire at 201 Montgomery St. in Pittsburg on Jan.28. Once officials arrived on scene, at approximately 11:53 p.m., they learned that Pittsburg residents were trapped inside. First responders began a search and rescue but due to the conditions, there was one fatality. Marier Johnson(57) passed away due to injuries sustained in the blaze. The State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the incident, which is standard when a death is involved.

A two-vehicle wreck occurred at Marshall and Rusk street today. A woman driving a white Jeep Wrangler, traveling west, collided with a male driver, driving a grey Chevy HHR. The Chevy was traveling south on Rusk St. as the driver of the Jeep failed to yield to oncoming traffic causing a crash and the Jeep to overturn. As of Feb. 2 there is still not any information released about this collision. Both drivers remain unknown.

US Marshals, Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force captured over 800 fugitives in the East Texas area during 2020, recovered missing children

TYLER, Texas – The U.S. Marshals Joint East Texas Fugitive Task Force (JETFTF) brought 813 felony fugitives to justice during 2020, bringing the arrest total to 20,305 since its inception back in 2004. These arrests resulted in 1,204 felony warrants being cleared in 2020, adding to the total of 26,774 warrants closed since the JETFTF was formed. Many of the fugitives the JETFTF apprehends are wanted on more than one state and/or federal arrest warrant.

The Pittsburg Pirates went 4-1 at the Tatum invitational tournament this weekend. They opened up the tournament with a 7 to 0 win against the host team Tatum. Giovanny Rojas lead the Pirates in scoring with three goals. Adair Verde and Yedhiael Ramirez had two goals each. Mauricio Galvan lead the team in assists with three. The player of the game went to Mauricio Galvan. Mauricio is a very versatile player and currently has eight assists on the season. In the second game, the Pirates could not find the back of the net and gave up a late free-kick that allowed Bullard to get the 1-0 win. The Player of that game went to Daniel Guerrero. Daniel lead the defense against a great Bullard team. On the second day of the tournament, the Pirates took on Sabine and got the 6-3 win. Adair Verde had five goals. Giovanny Rojas lead the team in assists with 5 and also scored a goal. The Pirates went up early 6-1. Allowing other players an opportunity to get a lot of playing time. The player of the game went to Adair Verde. The second game of the day was against Spring Hill and the Pirates got the 3-0 win. Victor Benites, Adair Verde, and Yedhiael Ramirez all scored one goal each. Adrian Vega had his first varsity start at goalie and kept a clean sheet giving up 0 goals to the Panthers. The player of the game went to Victor Benites. Victor flies around the whole field and never stops. His agility and quickness give the other teams trouble. The fifth and final game was against Mineola and the Pirates won 5-1. Giovanny Rojas lead the Pirates with 3 goals and Adair Verde had 2. The player of the game went to Omar Garza for his lockdown defense. Two Pirates were awarded to the all-tournament team. Giovanny Rojas and Daniel Guerrero. Giovanny Rojas had seven goals and six assists throughout the tournament. Daniel Guerrero is a vocal captain and leader on the back end of our defense. The Pittsburg Pirates improved to 8-1 on the season. They are currently leading all of 4A with the most goals scored, with 45 goals on the season. Giovanny Rojas is also leading all of 4A in goals 19, assists nine, and total points 47. The Pirates next match will be at home this coming Friday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. against the Henderson Lions.
