The City of Pittsburg is doing well according to the financial report from the Economic Development Corporation on Feb. 15. In fact, everyone in the area is growing including Quitman, and Texas as a whole is gaining financially.
Robert L. “Bob” Turner had the distinct honor of turning 100 on Feb. 6, 2022, and was celebrated at a reception by friends, family, and the people involved with a big project in his life: the Northeast Texas Rural Heritage Depot and Museum.
Initially begun to combat the dread disease polio, the Lions Club has expanded their horizons to include many diseases that plague the human race. With this in mind, the Pittsburg chapter of the Lions Club invited guest speaker Peggy Walker to speak on the upcoming Texas Lions Camp on Feb. 17.
Mayor David Abernathy was quite surprised to see the City Council agenda on Feb. 14. The first item was a “Presentation of a Certificate of National Recognition” to the mayor, who has been chosen as a Top 100 national winner of the 2021 Small Town America Civic Volunteer Award. City Manager Clint Hardeman and Community Development Coordinator Niecy Baum submitted his name without his knowledge, and the Council surprised him with the recognition.
