War veteran’s remains return home after nearly 70 years: funeral planned for Saturday in Gilmer
After 69 years, a United States soldier’s remains have finally been accounted for. United States Army Private First Class Junior C. Evans went missing during withdrawal after an attack from Chinese Communist Forces in the Chosin Reservoir on December 12, 1950, and was presumed dead in 1954. He was a member of Company I, 3rd Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. Evans was one of over 4,000 listed as Missing in Action during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir.
