War veteran’s remains return home after nearly 70 years: funeral planned for Saturday in Gilmer

After 69 years, a United States soldier’s remains have finally been accounted for. United States Army Private First Class Junior C. Evans went missing during withdrawal after an attack from Chinese Communist Forces in the Chosin Reservoir on December 12, 1950, and was presumed dead in 1954. He was a member of Company I, 3rd Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. Evans was one of over 4,000 listed as Missing in Action during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir.

Pirate Soccer 2-0 in District 15

Pirate Soccer began their district play with a 10-3-1 record so far and have won their first two district outings by crushing their first two opponents, Chapel Hill and Pleasant Grove, eight to nothing in both games. Junior strikers Yedhiael Ramirez, mid-fielder Victor Benites, and senior forward Kevin Ramirez and senior striker Marco Trejo continue to lead the team in goals.

PISD rates an ‘A’ in all categories

During regularly schedule Pittsburg Independent School District’s School Board meeting, Jan. 27, PISD Deputy Superintendent Beth Anne Dunavant, gave the Board extremely good news. She reported that the Texas Education Agency had published its final report for the 2018-2019 school year and all Pittsburg Schools scored and A. The PISD is scored on attendance, enrollment, and staffing information.
