Jordan Whelchel accepts full ride to Rice University
Jordan Whelchel, former NTCC Presidential Scholar, has just accepted an offer to attend Rice University in the fall of 2020. He will receive a fullride, full need scholarship, and pursue a degree in electrical engineering.
Alpha Mu Chi holds virtual induction ceremony
Alpha Mu Chi, Northeast Texas Community College’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, recently held it’s first-ever virtual induction ceremony since they were unable to hold their regular spring induction due to COVID-19.
Dr. Clinton announces limited campus reopening
Dr. Ron Clinton, President of NTCC, has announced that Northeast Texas Community College began a limited reopening of the main campus this summer to students and visitors who need more personal access to essential services beginning Monday, June 1, 2020. Although officials say they wish they could open more fully at this time, in order to comply with Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s recent GA-18 and GA-23 directives on building occupancy limits, campus visits will be by appointment only until further notice. Two Presidential Scholars win $100 Eckman Awards
For their performance in challenging honors courses at NTCC in relation to their peers, two Presidential Scholars will win $100 checks. NTCC’s Dr. Jerry Wesson Scholar, Verania Leyva Garcia, who finished this past May, was the sophomore who took all twenty-one hours of requisite honors courses, including some rigorous special courses under Dr. Drew Murphy in chemistry, and ended with the highest GPA. Katelyn Marie Cox won her award as an honors freshman, ranking number one in the Stat-Psych Honors Seminar taught this past spring by Dr. Karyn Skaar and Dr. Paula Wilhite.
