November 22, 1963 – My mother was in her Glee Club class when it was announced President Kennedy had been shot and killed. After school, she and some of her classmates, who weren’t even Catholic, went to a Catholic church to pray. “It didn’t matter your religion, we were all hurting as a country”, said my mom, JoAnn Bilbrey. The country mourned together.

Pssst… can I tell you a secret? Please do not tell the nice ladies at the Gazette office but I have to admit something, I’m lonely. Everyone is very nice at the office, but they are so busy and are in and out a lot during the week. In the evening and on weekends, I’m here all by myself. Plus, I’ve recently learned that some of the guests to the office do not like cats or are allergic to them. I just don’t understand why people wouldn’t like little ‘ole me.

Ronnie Andrew Jones was born August 27, 1953 and passed away August 28, 2020. Services were on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at Reeder-Davis Chapel. Burial followed at Smyrna Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs.

Guy Wayne Tomlin, 90, of Mount Pleasant, TX, passed away on August 24,2020. Guy lost his earthly battle but he gained his Heavenly Home. He was born on February 8, 1930 in Las Animas, Colorado to Pearl and Hazel Tomlin.

Graveside services for Gerald Joseph Peltier, 84, of Pittsburg were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Bluff Cemetery in Springdale, AR with Pastor Matt Slaughter officiating. Interment was in Bluff Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Erman Smith Funeral Home in Pittsburg, TX. Mr. Peltier passed away Monday, August 24, 2020 in an Athens Hospital.
