Dear Editor:

I live a ways outside of town and I come to Pittsburg to run errands and pick up the mail. When I am out and about I like to get a large soft drink with ice. Sonic’s has half price drinks, but only certain times of the day so McDonald’s gets a lot of my business since they sell their drinks at $1 all the time. I was perfectly happy with the Styrofoam cups that kept my drink cold for an hour or more. Environmentalist convinced McDonald’s they needed to do away with Styrofaom to save the planet. Now when you get a drink it comes in a plastic cup that is covered in condensation. It drips all over your clothes and leaves a puddle of water when you set it down. I went to McDonald’s website for answers and read how if I use the lid for a coaster the problem would be solved. Yeah right, try doing that while you are in the car. Coasters are not compatible with automobile drink holders. The people who made this decision live up north where they have nine months of hard winter and maybe three moths of mild summer in a good year. North East Texas enjoys 9 months of summer and maybe 3 months of mild winter temperature. When it hits 100 degrees the ice in the new cups may last for 5 or 10 minutes verses one hour or more in the old cups. A lot of the convenient stores se1s $1 drinks in decent cups, but do not have drive thru windows. It is not easy for me to get in and out of the car and navigate inside their stores because I am handicapped. If you feel like I do on the subject of Styrofoam verses plastic let McDonald’s know how you feel.
