Lions Open Door

Lions Club of Pittsburg met for their weekly meeting on Thursday, March 12, at noon, in the NTCC meeting room. President Mary Collins introduced the guest speaker, Teresa Owen, Founder and Director of Open Door. a pregnancy preparedness and alternative counseling program.

Teresa Owen said that Open Door is a pro-life, faith-based organization that supports parents caring for their babies. Her team of volunteers walk beside new parents, helping support what they go through before delivery and then raising their children. The group provides pregnant and new mothers with parenting classes which then earns them shopping points toward the new baby store. Those points earn them baby clothes and supplies and equipment that has been donated bylocalcompaniesfortheiruse. Male advocates work with expectant and new fathers, providing them classes, guidance, and support as they go through their parenting roles.

Teresa Owen said, “If you’re facing an unexpected pregnancy, you’re probably struggling with what step to take next. We are your next best step. Through pregnancy testing, ultrasound, and consultations, we can verify your pregnancy and show you the steps moving forward. Best of all, our services are offered free of charge and under strict confidentiality. Remember, today’s decisions are building tomorrow’s courage. You’ve got this!”

President Mary Collins discussed the April 1 Region 8 Egg Hunt for the visually impaired and led the approval of funds to pay for the beeping eggs. Discussion was open-ended for a baked potato station bar on Baked Potato Tuesday, April 14. She displayed the logo that will go on the Lions T-Shirts to be worn at the March 20 Kite Festival.
