YOUR Community, YOUR Chamber

The Peach Queen Race has begun and this year the Chamber has seven wonderful candidates chosen because of their involvement in their school and the community. They are Maliyah Jackson, sponsored by Douglass Alumni; Lessly Garza, sponsored by Pittsburg Rotary Club; Emily Calderon, sponsored by Pittsburg Kiwanis Club; KyAuna Jones, sponsored by NAACP; Kortnie Griffin, sponsored by Pittsburg Rodeo Association; Kyleigh Hefner, sponsored by Efurd Orchards and Makenzie Edwards, sponsored by Pittsburg Lion’s Club.

The candidates, all entering their senior year of high school, are working hard to raise funds to ensure that they will be named this year’s Peach Queen. The girls have until July 6 to fundraise, selling tickets to the Peach Queen Coronation, the Pioneer Days Leadership Luncheon and the BBQ cook-off. The girls are also selling ad space in this year’s Pioneer Days Festival Guide and working with their sponsoring organizations to host additional fundraisers.

This year’s Queen Race will end with a reception at the Chamber office on July 6. That evening, we will announce the winner of the Peach Queen contest based on financial donations received by each candidate. So, why support these young ladies in their fundraising endeavors? First and foremost, these seven young ladies are stepping out of their comfort zones and asking local businesses and individuals to support their efforts. Secondly, you support your local Pittsburg-Camp County Chamber of Commerce.

Why support the Chamber you ask? The Pittsburg-Camp County Chamber is hard at work promoting our community by hosting events that draw thousands of people to Pittsburg and Camp County. This year we are hosting the Independence Day Blast, Pioneer Days and the Historic Highway 11 Treasure Trails, just to name a few of our upcoming events. How does bringing people to Camp County help our community? Visitors to our county means revenue for our local businesses – they’ll buy gas, eat at our restaurants and shop at our local stores.

The Chamber is committed to increasing tourism through events and promoting all that we have to offer. We are currently working on a new brochure which highlights outdoor activities in our area. Did you know that you can rent a boat, and a fishing guide, for a day on the lake at Bob Sandlin? Or, that this coming Saturday, June 16, the Bob Sandlin State Park is offering a free “Father’s Day Craft” program at 11:00 a.m.?

Despite being the second smallest county in the state of Texas, Camp County has so much to offer and the Chamber is committed to promoting it as a great place to visit, play and stay.
