Hackers target Pittsburg PD

Hackers targeted the Pittbsurg Police Department last week. Police Chief Richard Penn reported that the PPD had identified an attempted illegal hack into the City-owned records management system.

An investigation into the attempted breach is ongoing. “Both law enforcement and information technology personnel are attempting to determine the source of the attempted illegal access and to prevent future attempts,” Penn said in a statement. The department assured the public that the personal information targeted is so far safe. “At this time, it is not believed that any personal information has been compromised,” Penn said. The attempted illegal access has resulted in the delay of public access to reports, according to the statement. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to our citizens,” Penn said.
