Body found by Pittsburg roadside

Pittsburg Police are investigating the discovery of a body found Monday morning.
In a brief statement released Monday afternoon, Police Chief Richard Penn said officers were
dispatched to the 600 block of Quitman Street in reference to a body on the side of the road at
approximately 7:23 a.m.
“Officers located the body of a black female and an investigation began,” Penn said in the
statement.
The body was found in a ditch near the 100 block of Candy Drive.
Police did not release the woman’s identity and have not said whether foul play was involved. A
cause of death has not yet been determined.
The body was sent to Southwest Forensic Institute in Dallas for autopsy under the order of
County Judge AJ Mason.

Pittsburg officials told The Gazette the investigation involved one body, quelling reports from
community members that two more bodies were found in a nearby apartment complex.
