Pirate Majorettes make Pitt history at State

Four Pirate High School Band Majorettes have made Pittsburg Pirate history.

Marandy Burrow, Julianna Sewell, Skyler Brown, and MyKinsey Fry, who will be juniors in the fall, are the first Pirate Majorettes to achieve a First Division rating at the 4A State Baton Twirling competition, which was held Sunday, May 27, in Pflugerville.

They received the honor in the team competition. Three of the four - Burrow, Fry, and Brown - received silver medals in individual 4A State competition.

The Pirate Band Majorettes will be joined next school year by two new team members moving up from Pittsburg Junior High, Sydney Smith and Maci Manley.

Smith earned first place in the Two Baton Dance Twirl at the Bullard Invitational Twirling contest earlier this year. She advanced to the Premier Performer contest held at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches. As a Junior High twirler, she made Pittsburg Pirate history as not only the first PJH twirler to be invited to SFA but the first person from Pittsburg to ever qualify for the Premier Performer and be invited to twirl in their coliseum.

The entire team will attend the SFA Twirl-O-Jacks Camp in mid-June, so fans, be sure to look for premier performances during halftime in the upcoming football season.
