Overstreet

Funeral services were held for Gary Lynn Overstreet, formerly of Pittsburg, on Sept. 25, in Vernon. Officiating was Bishop Bill Lowery and Elder Jas Wallace. Gary passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018 in Lubbock after a brief illness. He was 76 years old. He was born Nov. 18, 1941 in Pittsburg to Samuel Elvis Overstreet and Ina Ruth (Susie) Couch Overstreet.

He attended public school in Pittsburg, where he excelled in high school sports. After graduation, he joined the Navy and played football on the Navy team. He married Glenda Mowery on June 18, 1966. Gary worked for Texas Instrument in Dallas for a number of years and then, he and Glenda gave up “city” life and moved to the country. They established their first dairy in Pittsburg in 1972. That began a very long and successful career in the dairy business. Later establishing dairies in Dike, Cooper and Chillicothe, Tex.; and Hollis, Okla. Gary was a member of the Dairy Farmers of America and served on numerous boards and committees through-out his career. He was also a member of the National Brown Swiss Association, serving as a National Director. In addition, he was a member of the Texas Brown Swiss Association and also served as a director. He raised livestock that achieved national award winning status in those associations. Gary was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Norman Overstreet and Sammy Overstreet; sister, Janice Overstreet; father and mother-in-law, John and Maxine Mowery.

He is survived by his wife, Glenda of 52 years; sons, Michael Overstreet and wife Christine, Steven Overstreet all of Chillicothe; daughter, Rhonda Ann Brown and husband Dr. Dcan Brown of Cokeville, Wyoming; grandchildren, Mikayla, Brianna, Garrett, Lexia, Spencer, Cydney, Tanner and Sabrina; one great-grandchild, Zoe; brothers, Bruce Overstreet and James Wallace of Pittsburg, Bobby Wallace and Ricky Wallace of Gilmer; sisters, Ina Lou Waldrep, Cindy Shearin of Pittsburg, Mary Smitherman of West Monroe, Louisiana and Martha Kerr of Bossier City, Louisiana.

Pallbearers were Michael Overstreet, Steven Overstreet, Francisco Sanchez, Roland Roman, Julian Martinez and Bernabe Reyes. Final interment was at Big Valley Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were by Sullivan Funeral Home in Vernon.
