Dorothy Lavelle McCasland, age 90, of Pittsburg, Texas passed away Monday, January 4, 2021 in Tyler, Texas. She was born February 19, 1930 in Mills County, Texas to Nannie and Henry Harris.

Dorothy was a member of Greer Boulevard Church of Christ in Pittsburg, Texas where she taught children’s bible classes for 25 years or more. She helped organize the Redbud Garden Club while serving as president of the club, helped organize the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Auxiliary while serving as secretary for 10 years and historian for 20 years in the Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana region, and was a community representative on the Site Based Decision-Making Committee for the Pittsburg Elementary School. Dorothy also served on the Pittsburg-Camp County Library board and a member and docent for the Pittsburg-Camp County Museum. She was a Gold Life Member of duplicate bridge where she served on the Board of Directors for unit 255 in East Texas.

Dorothy is survived by numerous nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Crowder who she lost to Leukemia in 1949; husband of almost 49 years, Larry McCasland; parents, Nannie & Henry Harris; brother, Alvin Harris; and sister, Emillee Schorn.

Due to COVID concerns, the family scheduled a come and go visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2021 at Erman Smith Funeral Home in Pittsburg, Texas A private family graveside was held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that benevolence donations be made in Dorothy’s memory to Greer Blvd. Church of Christ, mailing address P.O. Box 414 Pittsburg, Texas 75686.
