Edwena Lawson, age 88, passed away on October 5, 2020 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Edwena moved to Georgia in 2019 to be near family after living in Pittsburg, Texas for over 30 years. Born to Willie C. and Minnie Brummett on February 11, 1932 in Addington, Oklahoma, she married the love of her life, Udale C. Lawson in 1950. Together, they built a 59-year legacy of love, generosity, service and commitment to Jesus Christ and one another. Edwena received Bachelor of Science and Master’s Degrees in Education from Texas A&M, Commerce. She taught elementary school children in Richardson, Winnsboro, and Mt. Vernon Texas. She was a faithful and committed member of First Baptist Church, Pittsburg, Texas. Edwena was actively involved in all aspects of Children’s Ministry, Choir, and Handbells and worked in Vacation Bible Schools every summer for over 60 years. She was a faithful volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and UT Health in Pittsburg, Texas. Edwena lived fully and never without a smile. She had many special friends who have loved and supported her through the years.

Preceded in death by her parents and husband, Edwena is survived by daughters Elizabeth Lawson Favaro (Jon) of Atlanta, GA and Vicky Lawson Bennett (Tyler) of Monahans, TX; five grandchildren, Emily Bennett McGee (Matt), Lauren Cromwell, Cameron Bennett (Kayla), Lane Cromwell, and Lawson Cromwell; and three great grandchildren.

Visitation started at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 10, 2020 at First Baptist Church, Pittsburg with services to followed at 11:00 a.m, under the direction of Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Leesburg Cemetery.

Donations in Edwena’s memory can be made to the Children’s Ministry of First Baptist Church, Pittsburg, Texas.
