A new source for great seeds

Fall is a great time to think about vegetable, flower, and herb seeds for next Spring’s plantings. The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension website at https://easttexasgardening.com/resources/, contains a chart showing optimum times to plant seeds here in Northeast Texas. Most vegetables, flowers, and herbs have two possible times to plant seeds directly into outside soil: early Spring and early Fall. (Quick: Which favorite NE Texas vegetable has its own right time? Yes, okra. It requires soil temperature around 85 degrees F, so wait until hot Summer to plant okra here. Give yourself a pat on the back, if you knew this!)

Inspection Choreography

King Solomon of Israel proclaimed in the biblical book of Ecclesiastes, “Two are better than one, for they have a good return for their labor. For if either of them falls, the one will pick up the other, but woe to the one who falls when there is not another to pick him up.” This statement is true both in the literal sense and in the figurative. Whenever we open a honey bee colony, there are always two of us involved.

Honors Northeast receives generous donation

The Northeast Texas Community College Foundation recently received a generous donation from Carol Hodges of Hughes Springs. These funds will help the Honors Northeast program continue its legacy of unique special projects, their annual feature-length films, public events, special trips of research, and scholarly contests. Pictured above are Dr. Andrew Yox--NTCC Honors Director, Estefani Garcia, Stephanie Hernandez, Carol Hodges, Andrew Higgins, and Yahir Garcia. The four students are all high-ranking members of Honors Northeast.

Question of the Week

Over the next seven weeks we will be talking to local students about holiday wishes. This first week we asked Pittsburg High School students this question - “If money was not an issue, what would you do to help others this holiday season?” Here are five responses.
