Lions Club inducts new officers

Last Thursday the Pittsburg Lions Club kicked off another active Lions Club year. They said thank you to outgoing President, Rhett McCollough and welcomed this year’s new president, Sandy Thompson. Other officers were installed as well: Kistin Kilburn as Vice President, Sarah Johns as Secretary, Frank Harrison as Treasurer, Kathy Carpenter as Tail Twister and Tim Nicholson as Lion Tamer. Pittsburg Lions have been standing strong amid this difficult time and continuing to quietly serve and meet needs in our community.

Would you risk your life for a couple of kids you don’t even know? [Pittsburg, Texas, June 2020] Award winning author James R. Olson’s new novel, Suffer The Children, is a suspense thriller that explores the roots of human nature--of innocence and experience, kindness and cruelty, fear and trust-and asks whether damaged children can I earn to trust again? Virtually overnight Jonathon Wilson’s carefree bachelor world has been turned upside down. His sister is dead from a drug overdose that may or may not have been accidental, and he’s suddenly the guardian of a niece and nephew-who’ve been sexually and emotionally abused. His sister’s former drug dealer wants to ask the children some questions, and they aren’t likely to survive the interrogation. Now Jon must decide whether he is willing to die to protect two kids he didn’t even know existed a couple months ago. The book abounds with great characters captured perfectly; from the once carefree bachelor who is committed to doing the right thing, no matter how dangerous~ to the little girl determined to protect her brother even if it means more pain for her. This is Jim Olson’s eighth novel. He has also written a non-fiction book, “Fascinating Tales From Obscure History,” which he published last year. His writing has won several awards, including the Southwest Border Regional Library Association Award for historical fiction, and the Council for Wisconsin Writers best novel of the year. He currently lives and works in Pittsburg, Texas. “Suffer the Children” is available on Amazon.com as either a Kindle e-book or a paperback.
