Christmas Lights
I think we can all agree that this year has had rather dark undertones. From cancellation or modification of annual events, quarantines and financial issues to hospitalizations and death from a virus that, at the beginning of the year was unknown, the year has taken a toll on all of us in one way or another.
Camp County saves Christmas
Our community’s normal angel tree process was canceled this year because of the pandemic, but many stepped up to make sure our most vulnerable kids would have presents under their tree on Christmas morning. Alethea Smerdon of God’s Closet along with Elizabeth Williams & Jessica Lemarr created Operation North Star to be sure our most vulnerable kids will have food on their table & presents under the tree. The schools selected families that needed Christmas help. Jenny Thompson was one of many PISD employees that gathered the information for kids from their campuses for Operation North Star said “Knowing the joy that will be on a child’s face, that wouldn’t have otherwise had anything under their Christmas tree, is what it’s all about.” Many local businesses, churches & individuals did what they always do to help our kids, they rallied & gave with joined hearts but not joined hands this year.
4-H News and Cattlemen’s Association meeting
4-H members from across the county were very busy in the month of November collecting canned goods and other non-perishable food items. They collected and were able to donate over $100 in cash and several large boxes of food! This drive was a part of Texas 4-H’s annual “One Day Of Service” project. I am especially proud of our 4-H members for stepping up to help to fill a need for others here in Camp County. If you see any of them this week, let them know how awesome they are!
