East Texas Junior Golf Tour to start in June

The East Texas Junior Golf Tour is in its fifth year providing summer golf tournaments for East Texas area youth. This tour allows youth golfers to compete in tournaments and accumulate points based upon where they place in each tournament to qualify for a 36-hole Tour Championship to be played at Mount Pleasant Country Club. In the Tour Championship the youth golfers have caddies to carry their clubs and give advice on Club and shot selection.

The tournaments are played every Monday and Thursday at various courses in the months of June and July in the East Texas area and membership is $25.  The costs for each tournament will be $25 ($30 for non-members) and there will be awards for first, second and third place.

There are three divisions for both boys and girls: high school, junior high and 11 and under.

Coach Matt Garrett of Chapel Hill High School founded the tour back in 2015. “There was just nothing around our area that could provide this opportunity to young golfers,” said Garrett. “Help from many of the area golf courses helped my vision to serve the youth of East Texas to come to life.”

In 2019 over100 youth golfers participated in the Junior Golf Tour.  Youth golfers from Nacogdoches to Texarkana to Paris to Tyler to Greenville were tour members and played in tour events.
