COVID-19 case confirmed in Camp County

On March 30, County Judge A.J. Mason issued a statement involving a confirmed COVID-19 case in the county. “Today I was informed by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) that a resident of Camp County has tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus. DSHS is taking all necessary actions in response to this matter. To date, 124 counties in Texas have positive cases of the coronavirus. Currently, cases continue to increase in Texas at a rate in excess of 30% per day. At this rate, cases will nearly double every three days. While there is no cause for panic, I cannot overstate how important it is to continue to adhere to the guidelines and executive orders to lessen the spread of this virus,” Mason stated.

Teen uses Eagle Scout project to provide masks to medical facilities

Local teen Andrew Miller became a member of the Cub Scouts when he was just six years old. A decade later, he has chosen to use his Eagle Scout project to improve his community. After hearing from his aunt, who works at a hospital in Tyler, that their facility had a mask shortage, Miller thought this must mean that local healthcare facilities were facing the same issue. He called medical facilities in town and found that he was correct. He decided then to begin making masks for his Eagle project. “I thought that it would benefit the community to get these needed masks,” said Miller.
