Freight train collides with semi-truck on 271

On May 21, at 1:50 p.m., Pittsburg Police Officers responded to the 200 block of N Greer Blvd in reference to a motor vehicle crash. According to the investigating officer’s initial report, a 2016 Freightliner operated by Gerald Newton, 52, was traveling southbound and was struck by a Kansas City Steel train. Newton was transported by Camp County EMS to UT Health; a train crew member was also treated by CCEMS. GAZETTE PHOTO / DI DUNCAN
