I’m not sure when scientists learned that plants can talk, but it definitely opened up a new world to them. Corn, for example, when attacked by a corn earworm, begins talking via a chemical aroma telling other corn plants they are in trouble. All within range begin sending aromas to attract enemies of the pest. Additionally, the affect plant’s roots begin clicking or popping (extremely low frequency) by bursting cells telling other roots it’s under attack. Other plants in range then begin clicking.

Save the fireworks

In 2018, the Pittsburg-Camp County Chamber of Commerce began hosting the annual Independence Day firework show. Until now, July 4 was a day full of activities such as parachute bingo and games for families. Due to social distancing concerns, the fireworks will be the only attraction this year, but the Chamber has ensured that the show will last longer than ever before.
