Sarah Jane “Sally” Shaffer

Memorial services for Sarah Jane “Sally” Shaffer, 85, of Pittsburg will be 12:30 p.m., Sunday, July 30, 2023, at the Pittsburg Church of Christ with Caleb Hamrick officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Erman Smith Funeral Home. Mrs. Shaffer passed into the arms of Jesus Tuesday, July 18, 2023, surrounded by her family and friends at home.

Mrs. Shaffer was born on February 28, 1938, in Muncie, IN, to Alfred and Catherine Craigmile Hoyt. She earned a master’s degree from Ball State University in Muncie, IN. Sally was a teacher in Indiana and Texas and retired after 30 years of service. She always said, she was a wife, homemaker, mother, and teacher. Sally loved to travel with George to cattle shows, sales meetings, and conferences including traveling worldwide, was a member of the Red Poll Cattle Association, and a member of the Pittsburg Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, George Shaffer; sons, G. Farley Shaffer and wife, Kathy of TX, David Matthew Shaffer and wife, Sheryl of CO, Douglas James Shaffer and wife, Tara of CO; grandchildren, Arricka Stone and husband, Andrew of MI, Raley Shaffer of CO, Samuel Shaffer of CO; great-grandchildren, Niko Stone of MI, and Harper Stone of MI; brother, Garry Wayne Hoyt and wife, Margie of TX.

Mrs. Shaffer was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Alfred Alan Hoyt and Jay Wendell Hoyt; sister, Virginia Hoyt.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Sunday, July 30, 2023, at the Pittsburg Church of Christ.
