Roy Edward Sprouse

Roy Edward Sprouse died on February 14, 2024, in Yuma, Ariz. He was born September 17, 1944 in Gilmer to William Arthur Sprouse and Eva (Carpenter) Sprouse. The family moved to Pittsburg in 1949.

Roy attended school in Pittsburg where he was in the band. In 1961 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served two tours of Viet Nam, one as a firefighter, and one as an air traffic controller. He was honorably discharged on December 26, 1973. After discharge, he was employed by the FAA as an air traffic controller in Fort Worth. He later left the FAA and worked as an independent trucker. He returned to the FAA and retired in 2005.

Roy married Theresa “Terri” Bychinski on May 9, 1977. After retirement Roy and Terri lived and travelled the country in their 38-foot motorhome, travelling during the spring and fall and spending the summers in Wisconsin, where Terri’s family lived, and the winters in Yuma, Ariz.

After Terri died on April 1, 2011, Roy lived in Pittsburg for a few years and decided he liked the weather in Yuma better. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Terri, two half-sisters and one half-brother; also, by a brother, Richard, and a sister, Sue Nelson. He is survived by his brother, Robert; sister, Betty Dyer; nieces and nephews, Rob Sprouse, Tami Barnett, David Sprouse, Lisa Cauble, Cheryl Davis, Michael Potter, Randy Potter and Doug Nelson.

Roy was cremated and no service will be held.
