Dorothy Sue Smith

Mrs. Dorothy Sue Smith, 85, of Pittsburg, Texas, died at her home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, November 16, 2023. She was born on January 14, 1938, in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, to Don Gilbert and Flossie Pauline Blevins. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pittsburg. Sue graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1956, attended East Texas State University and North Texas State University, and was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. Sue married her high school classmate, Kenneth Smith, on June 27, 1959. Sue and Kenneth own Smith Properties, Pittsburg, Texas. She retired from Smith Properties, where she worked as the property manager. Sue and Kenneth also held and operated the W. L. Garrett & Sons department store.

Sue was very active in the Pittsburg community, having served on the Pittsburg Camp County Arts Council Board, Twentieth Century Study Club, Business and Professional Women’s Club, Texas Ag Extension Homemaker’s Club, and Princedale Country Club Board, Princedale Country Club Ladies Auxiliary Board, and several church committees. Due to Sue’s distinguished participation in the community in 1978, she received the prestigious award of Pittsburg Woman of the Year. Sue’s hobbies included watercolor painting, gardening, cooking, and gift-giving. She enjoyed spending time with her high school classmates, afternoon Herschel’s coffee friends, and her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Greatly missed will be Mimi. Sue is survived by her husband, Kenneth Smith; children, Pat and Jill Smith, Troy and Diana Smith, and BuLinda and Kendal Burns; grandchildren, Troy Smith, Jr., Tanner and Carrington Smith, Victoria and Brandon Stevens, Blevin and Vanessa Burns, Bryce Burns, Bailey Smith, and Brooke Smith; great-grandchildren, Kaden Smith, Mason Smith, Carson Smith, Morgan Smith, Tealeigh Stevens, Braxton Stevens, Brayson Burns, and Brayley Burns; sister, Donnie and Richard Clouse, Tyler, Texas, sister-in-law, Venita Smith, Pittsburg, Texas, and multiple nieces and nephews.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents, motherin- law, Bessie Smith, father-in-law, Ples Smith, brother- in-law, Turner Smith, and sister-in-law, Bobbie Jo Smith.

Celebration of life services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 17,2023 at the Spring Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 81 CR 4690 Pittsburg, Texas 75686, with Bro. Bill Beckham officiating.
